According to Glenigan, student accommodation accounted for 7% of total housing projects begun in the three months to July.
The construction data provider pointed to rising student numbers and a growing shortage of PBSA beds as driving this trend.

Glenigan data shows that 1,609 PBSA beds were built by the end of July, with 17,802 set to be delivered by the start of the 2025/26 academic year.
The research firm highlighted statements from student accommodation provider Unite which earlier this year said the new PBSA supply was down 60% from pre-pandemic levels.
This was due to high construction costs, planning backlogs and mounting building safety approvals.
Private landlords have also retreated from the space, due to higher mortgage costs and tighter regulations.
